Against the bright, throbbing multi-coloured lights of a pumping nightclub, the Superstar DJs ply their trade. This music-themed slot has five reels displaying three windows each, and the symbols filling the windows are in the same rainbow hues as the background. It was developed and released by OpenBet software, and is available to slots players online.
Superstar DJ has 9 pay lines, but in an unusual feature, winning combinations can start on Reel 1 or Reel 5, as long as there are three or more icons in sequence on a pay line. Bets per line can be adjusted from 25 to 1,000 coins, and the player can also choose any number of lines to play from 1 to 9.
Retro Computer and Cartoon Icons
Superstar DJ uses four poker symbols, J to A, rendered in a retro digital font in acid green; both reminiscent of the artwork associated with 70s disco. The pay table gives prizes in coins, which must be multiplied by the line bet to work out the prize per combo. All the Superstar DJ symbols require at least three matches to win a prize, with the top prize among the poker symbols being 25 coins for five of a kind.
Five club regulars make up the other four ordinary icons: the first two being a female DJ, who pays 5, 25 or 50 coins for three, four or five matches, and a dancer in angel wings who wins 10, 50 or 100 coins for the same sequence. Two girls dancing together is the fourth icon, paying 25, 75 or 500 coins, and a wide-eyed dancing raver is the final ordinary symbol, winning 50, 100 or 1,000 coins.
Fish Icon Makes Witty Wild
The Wild is a picture of a big fish on a pink tile, and it has the usual substitution role for any other icon. Of course, this means it can complete left-to-right and right-to-left combos at the same time, winning multiple prizes.
Whenever the Wild is involved in a win, it animates and becomes a small fish, then a cardboard box. It’s a tongue-in-cheek reference to the repetitive hand-jiving once so popular in 90s dance clubs, satirically referred to as ‘big fish, little fish, cardboard box’…
Male Superstar DJ Triggers Bonus Feature
There is one other symbol used in Superstar DJ; a male DJ spinning the decks. He isn’t a Scatter, however; to trigger the bonus feature, the player must score three DJs in sequence from Reel 1 or Reel 5, all on the same pay line. However, in another feature that makes Superstar DJ different for a slot, the Wild can substitute for this bonus icon as it can for all the others, making it easier to trigger the bonus round.
This round happens on a new screen, with the DJ and decks looking out over the dance floor. The player gets a selection of discs, and must select them one by one to win cash and multipliers. If the crowd likes the music, the win increases, more figures appear on the dance floor and the player gets to select another disc for another prize. When the crowd hates the music and starts to leave the floor, the round ends and the total bonus is added to the player’s wins.
